FAQs

What does “NKU” mean?

In my home country of Ghana, Shea butter is known in Akan as “nkuto” (en-koo-to) and in the Ga language as “nku’ (“en-koo”). Our brand is rooted in Ghanaian culture and inspired by the richness of nature — blending traditional African care with modern self-care.

How long has NKU been around?

NKU Skin Care is the next chapter in a journey that began in 2009 as NKU Butter. What
started as a hobby handcrafting shea butter products to share the benefits of shea butter, nature’s superfood for the skin, quickly grew as more people discovered the comfort and care in each jar. Fifteen years later, NKU Butter blossomed into NKU Skin Care and has now evolved into a full line of luxurious, natural skincare products designed to nourish, protect, and celebrate your skin.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

Are your products natural?

Yes. Every product is handcrafted in small batches using natural, high-quality ingredients
including shea butter, coconut oil, mango butter, essential oils, and botanicals — without
parabens, sulfates, or synthetic fragrances.

Do your butters and balms contain preservatives?

We use natural antioxidants such as Vitamin E to extend shelf life — no artificial
preservatives. To maintain freshness, keep products in a cool, dry place away from direct
sunlight.

How long do your products last?

Our products typically last 12-18 months. Because they’re natural, texture and scent may
vary slightly over time - that’s the beauty of handmade care.

USE & RESULTS

Which butter is best for very dry skin?

Shea butter is the hero ingredient in many of our butters and balms, known for its rich
moisture and ability to soothe dry, irritated skin. While it remains at the heart of NKU Skin
Care, we’re also expanding beyond shea-based products to offer new formulas that nourish your skin in different ways.

Can I use NKU butters on my face?

Yes, all our butters are whole body butters and can be used on your face and continue with. For lightweight moisture, start with a small amount and massage into damp skin.

Do your products help with eczema or sensitive skin?

Many of our customers with eczema, psoriasis, or sensitive skin find relief with our butters and balms. While we don’t make medical claims, our products are formulated to soothe and protect naturally.

ORDERING & SHIPPING

How long will it take to receive my order?

All products are handmade and packed with care. Orders typically ship within 3–5 business days. You’ll receive tracking details once your order is on its way.

Do you ship internationally?

Currently, we ship within the United States.

What is your return policy?
